Bachelor's Programme in Mime and Physical Theatre

Bachelor's Programme in Mime and Physical Theatre

Do you want to move, perform, create and collaborate? Welcome to SKH! Explore mime and physical theatre as ways of thinking, questioning and creating unexpected performances. You will learn about the history of our art form, question how it relates to the world today, and imagine what it could become in the future. Curiosity, commitment and a desire to explore are the best starting points. The programme prepares you to become a mime artist and physical performer, ready to create and perform within contemporary performing arts.

The Bachelor's Programme in mime and physical theatre combines technical training with artistic exploration, bringing together practical work and theory. It is rooted in the mime tradition developed by Professor Stanislaw Brosowski.

The mime style focuses on the physically thinking performer, in whom thoughts, feelings and intentions become visible through precise, expressive physical action. Through rigorous training, students develop the ability to transform impulses into movement. The training fosters precision, control and sensitivity while exploring movement, weight, resistance, rhythm and space. You learn to listen to your body and respond to others.

At Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH), you also have the opportunity to meet and collaborate with students and practitioners from other artistic fields. These encounters broaden your perspective and open new possibilities for artistic exchange and creation.

The programme prepares you for the diverse and evolving field of contemporary performance, where mime extends beyond traditional forms and becomes a means of exploring ideas and creating original work.

Graduates work across a wide range of artistic fields, including interdisciplinary performance, mime, contemporary dance, theatre, comedy and clowning. Some develop careers as directors, choreographers, puppeteers, animators or motion-capture performers. With strong technical skills and a versatile physical vocabulary, graduates can join established companies, work independently, collaborate across disciplines or develop their own artistic projects.

A bachelor’s degree in Mime and Physical Theatre can also provide a foundation for further studies, including a master’s programme.

The main language of instruction is English. In some parts of the programme, you will have the opportunity to work in your first language.
