Admission Process Master Programme in Opera - Vocal Performance
Through a multi-stage entrance examination, an admissions panel selects candidates from among eligible applicants. The decisive factor for final admission is that you are assessed as having the vocal, musical and stage skills required to benefit from the education.
The entrance examinations are conducted in two rounds. The first test is a qualification test and the second is a combined qualification and selection test. The first qualification test is conducted digitally with recorded material, while qualification test 2 and the selection test are conducted at Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH) in Stockholm Friday, 5 March 2027, (week 9).
The repertoire for the auditions should be varied in terms of character, language, style and period. In total, applicants must have prepared eight different pieces as follows:
- Seven opera arias.
- One lied or song.
One piece must be performed in your native language, the others in the original language.
A pianist will be at your disposal from qualification test 2 onwards.
When applying, submit the sheet music for your repertoire list, as pdf:s via Grade Varbi. Indicate jumps and any other instructions for the pianist in the sheet music you submit.*
*The deadline for making changes to your repertoire list is 15 February 2027. If you wish to change or update sheet music, please send it in accordance with the previous instructions via email to jenni-my.andersson@uniarts.se.
This is how the tests work
Qualification test 1
Submitted material on film and audio file. No attendance required by applicants.
Assessment
Qualification test 1 assesses the applicant’s vocal technique, vocal quality and musical-dramatic ability in line with the education programme’s requirements. The admission group decides who will proceed to qualification test 2 / Selections test. The invitation is sent out via Grade Varbi at the latest week 6, 2027.
Combined qualification test 2/Selection test
Friday 5 March 2027
The tests take place during one day at SKH, Teknikringen 35 in Stockholm.
- Musical performance test, 15 minutes individual test before the admission group.
In front of the admissions group, you will work musically on an aria* from your repertoire list with one of our rehearsal teachers. Here we will assess how you interpret and translate musical instructions.
- Scenic performance test, 15 minutes individual test before the admission group.
We will work on stage with an aria* from your repertoire list, where you must be able to take direction, use scenic imagination, show social skills, use body language and personal expression in front of the admission group.
*You will be informed of the aria chosen by the admission group no later than one week before the test. This is so that you can prepare yourself in the best possible way.
The admission group may wish to hear something more from your repertoire list during the test day.
- Interview, approximately 15 minutes. During the interview, we will ask questions about your personal letter, giving you the opportunity to clarify your thoughts and explain your artistic development and creativity as a singer.
Assessment
Decisive for the final admission is that you are judged to have the vocal, musical and performing skills to be able to benefit from the programme. Your reflective ability is also taken into account in the final assessment.
Admission decisions after Qualification test 2/Selection test will be published on My pages on universityadmissions.se on 1 April 2027, and via Grade Varbi.
