Wednesday seminar: Conservation of Performance and Movement Based Artworks at Tate Gallery

Starting on her path into the profession, Louise Lawson, Conservation Manager at Tate, will reflect on what ultimately has led to her focus on the conservation of performance and choreographic artworks.  The seminar will then move to focus on the development of work across the last ten years within the Conservation Department at Tate.

Collecting, and therefore conserving, both performance and choreographic artworks by museums is relatively new, with the first performance work collected by Tate in 2005 and the first choreographic work collected in 2019 by Tate. Tate now has around 30 performance or choreographic artworks in its permanent collection. 

The seminar will explore what is needed to conserve such artworks working in partnership with the communities that create, produce and present such artworks.
