Wednesday seminar: Textures of Listening

In a conversation about the collaboration on the sound for the film En Ljuvlighet från ingenstans, Carolina Jinde (sound creator) and Ester Bergsmark (director) explore sound as texture, touch, and bodily sensation. Taking concepts such as bottomless expansion, haptic perception, skewness, concrete contours, and over-activation as their point of departure, they approach listening as an embodied practice in which sound can create dissolution, direction, intensity, and desire. 

Ester Bergsmark is an artist, filmmaker and artistic researcher working across experimental cinema, fiction, text and performative screenings. Her work explores desire, memory, tactility and embodied spectatorship, opening cinema as a sensory language and a poetry of perception. Her new film A Sweetness from Nowhere will be released in cinemas across Sweden in October. Ester lives on the outskirts of Stockholm, surrounded by lakes, forests and friends. 

Carolina Jinde is a professional listener and sound artist working in the expanded field of film and media. Her work explores listening as a relational practice, unfolding through collaborative and transdisciplinary artistic processes. It engages sound as material, tracing sonic expressions through material and relational conditions. She is an Assistant Professor at Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH).
