Research

At SKH, research is conducted through artistic practice. It develops new knowledge within and across our artistic disciplines and creates the conditions for art to be a dynamic, challenging and independent force in society.

SKH currently has more than 20 doctoral students and over 50 ongoing research projects. The research environment also includes regular conferences and seminars, as well as the journal VIS – Nordic Journal for Artistic Research.

Since 2016, SKH has been authorised to award doctoral degrees in the field of artistic practices. The university offers doctoral education in the subject of performative and media-based practices.

Research across artistic disciplines

SKH’s research field is artistic practices. It encompasses research into bodily and vocal practices, media-based practices, and visual, acoustic, performative and spatial practices. This also includes research focusing on areas such as dramaturgy, composition, choreography and directing.

An international research environment

SKH’s research environment is closely connected to education and artistic practice. Researchers, doctoral students, artists, teachers and students come together across and within different artistic disciplines.
